Punter's Pick

West Ham are a relatively generous 5/6 to win with Bet365, and given Fulham’s appalling away record that should be given serious consideration. Felipe Anderson is due a goal and can be backed at either 6/1 to open the scoring, or 7/4 to score anytime, both with Bet365. Betfair have West Ham to be winning at half time at 13/10 which looks realistic with the home team expected to come out strongly from the kick-off.

Fulham’s battle for Premier League survival resumes on Friday, as they face a tough trip across the capital to take on local rivals West Ham United in an entertaining looking London derby.

Fulham approaching the point of no return?

The Cottagers go into this fixture in dire straits – currently sitting in nineteenth place in the Premier League and eight points adrift of safety. There is precious little signs or green shoots of recovery either, their recent form reads just one win in six league games, with an embarrassing FA Cup defeat at home to Oldham Athletic also in the mix.

All too often this season, a rare win has usually been followed up by a sequence of defeats, little wonder why they are struggling for survival. A recent come from behind 4-2 win against Brighton was expected to set them off on a positive set of results, but instead it has been followed up by back to back defeats where they have conceded five goals without mustering a single one themselves. With Southampton away following this game, and the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to follow at home in March, Fulham’s time may almost be up if they fail to pick up at least four points against the Hammers and Southampton.

West Ham chasing a top ten position

Fulham’s opponents on the other hand, look in a handy position sitting in tenth in the table, with a real chance to finish strongly and progress at least two to three more places further up the league. A recent run of four games without victory does not do justice to the talent and personnel at manager Manuel Pellegrini’s disposal, and he will be disappointed their last league victory (1-0 against Arsenal) did not serve as a springboard for better results.

Back to back 1-1 draws against Crystal Palace and Liverpool did at least end a run of successive defeats, and in both draws West Ham looked hungry for the battle and displayed plenty of quality. Liverpool in particular could consider themselves fortunate to escape with a point from the London Stadium, and if the Hammers turn in a performance of that intensity again it will be difficult to see how Fulham get anything from this game.

Fulham will need to improve in return fixture

The two sides met on a wet and windy evening in December, with West Ham cruising to a 2-0 win thanks to first half goals from Robert Snodgrass and Michail Antonio. Fulham’s home form has barely picked up since then, and the ease at which West Ham saw out the second half at Craven Cottage would be of real alarm for Claudio Ranieri’s men going into this fixture. If they fall behind early on again here it promises to another fruitless afternoon for Ranieri’s team,

West Ham to be too strong

Without an away win all season, it is difficult to make the case for Fulham to suddenly end that record against a strong looking West Ham outfit. Despite the Hammers themselves being winless for four games, they will be viewing this fixture as an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways. With Fulham also having the worse defensive record in the Premier League, West Ham will fancy their chances of racking up some goals and confidence in the process too.
