Punter's Pick

In this game, it is difficult to look beyond a West Ham victory and Bet365 are offering 8/15 for them to win. Despite being odds on favourites, this still isn’t a bad price for a team that should be overwhelming favourites. If you fancy West Ham to win by two goals or more, then you can back the -1 goal handicap against West Ham at 6/4 with the same bookmaker.

West Ham will host bottom club Huddersfield at the London Stadium, as they continue their quest for a top half finish. Huddersfield will arrive almost resigned to the fact that their Premier League status will be no more come the end of the season and that they need to start looking ahead to next season and plotting their path back to the country’s top division.

In recent times West Ham seem to have lost their way with the Hammers only registering two wins in their last nine games. There have been some very good displays with a draw against Liverpool and victories over Fulham and Newcastle. But a loss to Cardiff last time out showcased the inconsistencies that have troubled the team throughout the season. After the long-standing saga concerning star man Marko Arnautovic and his desire to leave for China, the Austrian has not started in the last two games when he was named in the squad. Each time he has made an appearance from the bench, so it will be interesting to see if this is how Pellegrini uses him until the end of the season.

Huddersfield have lost 15 out of their last 17 matches and sit rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table. They are a massive 16 points behind 17th placed Burnley and will surely be planning for next season. This does however give them the licence to attack and throw caution to the wind which could potentially upset West Ham. It is an approach which worked recently against high-flying Wolves when a Steve Mounie goal gave them their first victory in 2019.

In recent times West Ham have had the upper hand in this fixture, bunt the Terriers will take heart from the fact that the reverse fixture in the season finished 1-1. Huddersfield had in fact led for much of the game through a Alex Pritchard goal, only for Felipe Anderson to level with around 15 minutes to go.

Manuel Pellegrini has declared no new fresh injury concerns for this game, but will continue to be without long-term absentees Andriy Yarmolenko, Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Winston Reid, and Andy Carroll. It will be interesting to see if he perseveres in starting with Javier Hernandez up front or whether he brings back Arnautovic to lead the line.

Huddersfield could start with up to seven regulars out of contention due to injuries. Jonathan Hogg, Adama Diakhaby, Danny Williams and Isaac Mbenza have already been ruled out and they will look to see the fitness of Demeaco Duhaney, Laurent Depoitre and Terence Kongolo.
