With this likely to be a combative affair and potential tiredness setting in, Bet365 are offering 5/6 on over 3.5 cards. With Liverpool still highly likely to win the game, a Liverpool victory and under 2.5 goals is being offered at 3/1 with the same bookmaker.

League leaders Liverpool travel away to West Ham, in what could be a tricky encounter given their last result at Leicester and West Ham’s ability to set up well and frustrate teams.

Jurgen Klopp will certainly be hoping that his team can quickly put their 1-1 draw against Leicester behind them as they continue their quest for a first league title in 29 years. Liverpool missed the chance to open up a seven point gap on champions Manchester City and the mood at Anfield was certainly of two points dropped rather than one gained. More concerning was the performance as Liverpool seemed to fall away in the game despite making a blistering start and getting the early goal through Sadio Mane. This was almost a carbon copy of City’s display at Newcastle and shows that there may be cracks appearing as the pressure of a title run sets in.

West Ham on the other hand sit comfortably in mid-table and seemingly out of harm’s way as far as relegation is concerned. The Hammers have had notable victories in the season, beating both Manchester United and Arsenal, however a lack of consistency has been the issue and has prevented them from sitting higher in the table. Three defeats in their last three games, including a knockout loss to Wimbledon in the FA Cup will concern Pellegrini as he looks to keep his team motivated until the end of the season.

Liverpool will fancy their chances on Monday having beaten West Ham in their last four encounters including the reverse fixture at the start of the season. A comfortable 4-0 home win saw Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge all get on the scoresheet, but this is likely to be a different encounter as we get deeper in to the season. West Ham may look to set up for the counter-attack and frustrate Liverpool. Anxiety could set in for the Reds if they don’t get a goal in the first half as the could be starting the game with just a two point lead if City manage to defeat Arsenal on Sunday.

In team news, Liverpool will welcome back James Milner, who having won a league title could be crucial in helping his teammates navigate through games as the pressure ramps up. Trent Alexander-Arnold however remains sidelined and Joe Gomez is expected to be out for an extended period, after initial enthusiasm of an early return.

West Ham would have been looking to welcome back star striker and talisman Marko Arnautovic, however many feel that it may just be too early to draft him back in. The ongoing transfer saga around their main man certainly hasn’t helped West Ham through the season. However with Arnautovic seemingly ruling out a mid-season transfer, the Hammers can now focus on the remainder of the season. News that Aaron Cresswell and Lukasz Fabianski could both be set to return will also boost the West Ham team.

Despite Liverpool hitting four goals in each of their last four games against West Ham, the feeling leading up to this game is that it will be a tighter affair, as Liverpool have not been at their expansive best in recent weeks. With Champions League games coming up against European giants Bayern Munich and no new signings in January, Liverpool may take more of a pragmatic approach to the remainder of their games.
