London Stadium

Punter's Pick

West Ham United welcome Manchester United to the London Stadium with both teams getting off to good starts in the season and losing just one game in all competitions. However neither team has been spectacular and both will feel that they have higher gears to go through which could make this an exciting encounter if they both play to their potential.

West Ham have performed well after their opening day defeat to champions Manchester City where they took a 5-0 hammering. They have gone unbeaten since then, drawing two and winning three out of their next five games in all competitions. They have been buoyed by the early season form of summer signing Sebastien Haller, who has three goals in his first four games. The defence has been a further sign of the work done by Pellegrini and they have kept three clean sheets in their last three games in all competitions. They will feel they have a real chance against a United team that hasn’t really gotten out of the blocks as yet.

Manchester United come into this game off the back of a 1-0 win over Leicester City which they followed up with a lacklustre 1-0 win over Kazakhstani side Astana. The Red Devils will be concerned by their lack of goals as they have not hit two or more goals since the opening day of the season when they put four past Chelsea. Murmurings of discontent with the potential transfer of Pogba, and Matic also being vocal about his match time seems to have had a negative effect on the team. This coupled with the penalty drama that unfolded between Rashford and Pogba and the departures of Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez has unsettled the team who are already counting themselves out of the championship race. How Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses their ability to support their forwards and get more goals will be important, but they face a real challenge against a well drilled West Ham side.

In team news, West Ham will be without Arthur Masuaku after his sending off at Aston Villa. They will also be without Michail Antonio and Winston Reid who are both out with long-term injuries. Sebastien Haller is expected to lead the line with Yarmalenko supporting after the departure of Javier Hernandez.

Manchester United are still short of options with Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly all expected to miss this game with injuries. Solskjaer may be forced to continue persisting with his youngsters such as James, McTominay and Pereira and Mason Greenwood has added his name into the hat after his solitary goal helped United beat Astana in midweek.

In recent meetings both teams have shared the spoils as they secured home victories in each of their fixtures last season. West Ham secured a 3-1 home victory and United avenged that result by winning at Old Trafford courtesy of a Paul Pogba brace.

Despite their below-par performances, United still start as favourites but we feel that West Ham may get something out of this game. The Hammers have conceded just two goals in their last five games and United haven’t scored more than one goal in any game since the opening day. Therefore we feel the 8/13 offered by Bet365 for a West Ham or Draw market is very generous. We also expect this to be a difficult game for both where they may end up cancelling each other out and backing under 2.5 goals at 11/10 could also be a value bet.
