Punter's Pick

West Ham do start as favourites being at home, Southampton do have the potential to match their opponents and secure a result. We feel that there is more security and value in other markets such as the over 9 corners at 8/13 with Bet365. This has materialised in their last two games and the fixture is usually played in good spirits which could lead to backing under 3.5 cards at 4/7. The current price of 8/13 on over 2.5 goals is a little short but punters could back this after 10 minutes as if there are no goals then the price will improve. The encounter has seen three goals or more in each of the last five so this is likely to come in.

West Ham host Southampton at the London Stadium as they continue their push for a top half finish. The Saints will go into this game in good spirits having had their Premier League status confirmed for another season and this could open the game up and produce an entertaining encounter.

West Ham’s form has been patchy and until recently had lost three games in a row to Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United. However a 2-2 draw against Leicester saw them turn the corner and the Hammers secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Tottenham last time out, which was the first victory for an away team at Spurs’ new stadium. Michail Antonio grabbed the only goal of the game and they really attacked Spurs registering more shots on target and corners to show their ability to press in the opposition half. Manuel Pellegrini will already be planning for next season but he will be keen to see which players will continue to feature as the season winds down.

Southampton have performed well under Ralph Hasenhüttl and the Austrian has guided them to Premier League safety after the sacking of Mark Hughes earlier in the season. The Austrian has seen his side lose just twice in their last seven games and it is a run which has seen them secure impressive victories over Tottenham and high-flying Wolves. The team played out an entertaining 3-3 draw against south coast rivals Bournemouth last time out and should have won the game having led twice, but for a late Callum Wilson. Shane Long has also been rejuvenated of late and set a Premier League record in scoring the fastest goal against Watford and he will be looking to make it three games on the bounce in which he has scored when the team visit East London.

In team news, West Ham may have more options having seen their injury list shorten in recent days. Samir Nasri is set to return after missing five games with a calf strain. Playmaker Manuel Lanzini and Aaron Cresswell could make starts and Carlos Sanchez could also feature having returned from injury.

For Southampton, Maya Yoshida and Jannik Vestergaard will both miss out but Mario Lemina could feature after a spell out on the sidelines.

Both teams will be confident of getting a result in this game but West Ham will point to their 2-1 victory at St Mary’s as proof that they should start this game as favourites. The reverse fixture featured three goals in a stunning 10 minute period where Nathan Redmond had broken the deadlock, only for Felipe Anderson to score a a quick-fire double to secure all three points for Pellegrini’s men. The Hammers also comfortably won their home game 3-0 last season so will be confident going into this fixture.
