Molineux

Punter's Pick

A draw at 11/4 with Bet365 looks like a good value proposition, with Leicester’s solid defence and menacing forward line likely to cause the home side plenty of troubles throughout. Leicester are further still a generous 3/1 to secure a draw at Old Trafford with a +1 goal handicap, again with Bet365, and this should be given serious consideration.

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Chelsea to Molineux with both teams desperate for a win after slow starts to the season. Both sides start the game in the bottom half of the table with Wolves hovering just above the relegation zone. Frank Lampard will be hoping to add to his solitary victory with Nuno Espirito Santo yet to register a league win thus far.

Wolves have already had a lengthy season having started their games at the back-end of July in the Europa League. Three points from four games seems like the team haven’t played well but this is far from the truth as they have won six Europa League games including both games against Torino, and drawn their first three games against tough opposition in Leicester City, Manchester United and Burnley. Despite coming back twice against Everton, they were unable to hold on as an 80th Richarlison winner condemned them to their first defeat of the season in all competitions. Manager Santo will be confident that his team has the quality to turn their fortunes around at home and a boisterous Molineux crowd could propel them to secure the three points on Saturday.

Chelsea arrive having secured their first competitive win under Frank Lampard. A tough 3-2 win away at Norwich was followed up by a 2-2 home draw against Sheffield United where the Blues twice surrendered the lead given to them by Tammy Abraham. Chelsea initially struggled to score goals but now have also had issues in keeping teams out, which will be of particular concern to Lampard, especially as he cannot strengthen his squad due to the transfer ban. With Champions League around the corner and an upcoming tie against Liverpool, it will be interesting to see if he rests some of his squad for the visit up north. Who will play up front is also a big call as Tammy Abraham has started to score goals but has never been classified as prolific in his career to date, or whether Lampard gives Michy Batshuayi or Giroud the task to lead the line.

In team news Wolves will be without central defender Wily Boly who was suspended after his sending off against Everton with Jesus Vallejo potentially taking his place for his Premier League debut. Matt Doherty is also pushing for a starting berth despite missing the international fixtures for Ireland.

Chelsea will be boosted by the news that Antonio Rudiger could make a comeback in central defence after recovering from a long-term knee injury. After the departure of David Luiz to Arsenal, Chelsea have struggled for a combination at the back, especially with key personnel being out injured. Chelsea can also welcome back Pedro and Mateo Kovacic however influential midfielder N’Golo Kante is out which will be a huge loss.

In meetings between these two teams Chelsea have traditionally been the dominant team. However Wolves have turned that around after winning 2-1 at Molineux last season courtesy of goals from Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez and securing a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, where the Blues needed a last-gasp goal from Eden Hazard to get the point.
