Punter's Pick

Manchester United should come out keen to avenge their FA Cup final defeat, and with a potentially much changed home side look good value to win at 10/11 with Bet365. The cup clash ended 2-1, and over 2.5 goals again looks to be on the cards and can be backed at 11/10, again with Bet365.

Wolves take on Manchester United in a rerun of their FA Cup Quarter Final, with the visitors hoping to avenge their 2-1 loss as they continue their quest for a top four spot.

Wolves stuttering in top seven quest

Despite their impressive run to the Semi-Final of the FA Cup, Wolves’ recent league form has slightly come off the boil, just as they looked to be taking a grip on seventh position and the chance to cap a dream return to the top flight. With just one win in their last six league games, a run which has included away defeats to relegation threatened Burnley on Saturday and the now doomed Huddersfield Town, Wolves will be looking for a good result to take into their Semi-Final showdown with Manchester City.

Saturday’s performance against Burnley, where they were physically and tactically outmaneuvered for long periods would have been particularly concerned for manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Despite having 65% possession, they lacked the guile or vision to break down a stubborn home defence.

United looking to get back on track for top four spot

After the highs of their dramatic 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, the Red Devils were brought crashing back down to earth with successive defeats at Arsenal in the Premier League and Wolves in the FA Cup. The manner of the defeats suggested there is still some way to go for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he moulds his side back into serious contenders for every trophy, the 2-1 reversal at Wolves particularly highlighting United still struggling to cope with teams sitting deep and looking to hit them on the counter attack.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Watford would also not have inspired much confidence, with United strangely looking ragged for long periods. If Watford had shown slightly more composure in front of goal, Solskjaer’s reign as permanent manager would surely have gotten off to a disastrous start and confined his side to three successive defeats.

Wolves hoping for more success against top six

One of the features of their first season back in the top flight is that the home side have not taken a backward step against the top six sides. Having already taken a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford earlier this season, Wolves have also stood toe to toe and taken points off Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea. Liverpool will also be looking on nervously as they face Wolves on the last day of the season at home, in what potentially could be a make or break day on Merseyside.

Team News

All eyes will be Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo and what lineup he puts out with Sunday’s FA Cup Semi-Final in mind. Defender Ryan Bennett is available again after serving a two match ban, meaning the Portuguese has a full squad at his disposable.

For the Red Devils, Alexis Sanchez remains the only long term injury absentee, whilst Jesse Lingard is pushing for a return to the starting XI, possibly at the expense of Juan Mata.

United can sneak a result

With one eye inevitably on the FA Cup clash with Watford, Wolves may not be at the same level and intensity which saw them defeat United 2-1 last month. With a potentially changed lineup on the horizon from the hosts, United will fancy their chances of avening their cup defeat and picking up a valuable three points as the race for the top four continues to hot up.
