Punter's Pick

With the two teams closely matched it is tricky to pick an outright winner but we feel the form of Wolves and the quality of their side should edge this one. Bet365 are offering 4/5 for a home victory for Wolves. Over 10 corners has also been well priced at 5/6 – a result which has materialised in both games last season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Southampton to Molineux with the two teams experiencing a reversal in fortunes from their early season form. Wolves struggled early on but have turned things around with Southampton struggling of late and languishing near the relegation zone. This should be an entertaining clash between two well matched teams.

Wolves come into this game having gone unbeaten in their last five outings in all competitions with victories in their last three. After netting their first league win of the season against Watford, they produced what could be the shock result of the season by beating Manchester City at the Etihad. Two counter-attacking goals from speedster Adama Traore helped secure the points on a dramatic day. Although champions City had lost earlier in the season to Norwich, the loss at home made the result even more spectacular and the team has now shot up the table to 11th place having been around the relegation zone for much of the start of the season. The decision to put Traore up front in the final period of the game against City proved a master stroke from manager Santo and this could be a ploy they use in their upcoming games.

Southampton’s form has been poor in recent weeks with the Saints winning just one of their last five Premier League games. A 3-1 home loss to south coast rivals Bournemouth was the catalyst and the team lost 2-1 to Tottenham and 4-1 at home to Chelsea prior to the international break. Goals have been the real source of concern for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as his team have scored more than once in only one of their eight Premier League games – a 2-0 away victory over Brighton. The front pairing of Danny Ings and Shane Long have not gelled thus far and the support from midfield hasn’t been able to contribute which has left them in 17th place.

In team news Wolves could have up to four players back as the fitness of Diogo Jota, Romain Saiss, Pedro Neto and Morgan Gibbs-White will be assessed prior to the game. Belgian midfielder Leander Dendoncker should also be available despite missing a game for his country during the international fixtures.

For Southampton, manager Hasenhuttl has hinted that Alex McCarthy could come back in place of Angus Gunn in goal. Fans will be boosted by the news that the exciting Moussa Djenepo is nearing fitness alongside Cedric but this game will come too soon for both players.

Last season, these two teams played each other in the league for the first time in almost 10 years, with both securing victories in their respective home games. Wolves won 2-0 at Molineux courtesy of goals from Ivan Cavaleiro and Jonny, with Southampton avenging their defeat in a 3-1 home win with goals from Nathan Redmond and Shane Long.
