Punter's Pick

Wolves love to draw 1-1, so the chances of both sides scoring would seem high, therefore take a look at this eventuality happening at ¾ with Bet365. Raul Jimenez has been in sparkling form all season for the home side, and looks good value at 6/5 to score anytime, again with Bet365.

Score draw specialists Wolves play host to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, with both sides keen on getting back to winning ways after a tough run of fixtures.

Villa better than 16th place?

Currently the Villains sit in 16th place in the table, just three points outside the relegation zone, and on the face of it they will be one of the teams in the shake up for relegation come the end of the season. However that only tells half the story, with Dean Smith’s sides having come through a tough run of fixtures to start the season with, including playing Liverpool and Manchester City in their last two games. Both those fixtures ultimately ended in defeat, but with a bit more maturity they could have easily picked up points against the last season’s Champions and Champions League winners.

Near misses have been a common theme for Villa this season, and it will be a habit they will want to rid themselves of sooner rather than later. Winning positions against Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have all been squandered, as Villa continue to fade badly in the second half of games. They have now conceded fifteen of their eighteen goals this season in the second half of games, something which they will need to address if they want to steer clear of a relegation battle.

Draw specialists Wolves look for a rare win

Villa’s opponents on Sunday have a different sort of problem to contend with, as they struggle to chalk up some wins. Despite being in the relative safety of 12th position, five points outside the relegation places, Wolves have actually only managed two league wins all season. Their last three games have all ended 1-1, bringing their total number of draws in the league up to seven from just eleven games played.

Wolves to their credit are not playing particularly badly, and have managed to juggle Europa League commitments alongside their league game to a reasonable level. However aspirations of being one of the sides to break into the established top six may have to be lowered, and a long run in the Europa League to go alongside another top ten league finish seem to be more realistic goals for this campaign.

Team News

Aston Villa are still sweating on the fitness of Jack Grealish, who missed last weekend’s defeat by Liverpool due to a calf injury. The influential captain has been in fine form and manager Dean Smith another week’s recovery time should be sufficient to see him take his spot in the starting XI.

Wolves are without key defender Willy Boly, who has an ankle injury, and fellow defender Matt Doherty is also rated doubtful. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been rotating his team to juggle league and cup commitments but is likely to revert to his strongest available starting lineup for this fixture, with the international break to immediately follow.

Another score draw?

Given this fixture comes at the end of another gruelling week for the hosts, Villa will feel there is something in this fixture for them, especially with the benefit of a weeks rest to prepare for this game. If captain Jack Grealish can also make a return from injury they will feel they pose enough of a threat to nick a goal against a Wolves defence that is struggling to keep a clean sheet, although their struggles in the second half of games suggests Wolves will feel confident of getting something out of this game as well.
