Cardiff host Bournemouth in what is likely to be an emotionally charged Cardiff City Stadium after the tragic news that Emiliano Sala’s plane had gone missing. This would have been Sala’s first home game and the tributes throughout the week have shown how the Football world can come together in these moments and put the game aside.

With such sadness around the club, the Cardiff players will still need to prepare themselves for a crucial game in their bid to avoid relegation. The Bluebirds come in to this game having won only one of their last nine games in all competitions, whilst Bournemouth are buzzing on the back of a fantastic 4-0 win over big guns Chelsea.

Cardiff’s issues have certainly been up front, with just five goals in their last nine games in all competitions. In fact their top scorer in the league is defender Callum Paterson with four goals, and this highlights the issues that Warnock had tried to rectify with the signing of Sala.

Bournemouth on the other hand have now put together back to back wins at home having gone five games without a win prior to that. A 2-0 win over a good West Ham team coupled with a remarkable 4-0 drubbing of top four hopefuls Chelsea has really cemented their Premier League status for another season. In fact The Cherries will be looking to secure a top seven finish with a view to breaking the top six monopoly next season, held by the big teams for so many seasons.

In team news, Leandro Bacuna is expected to start for Cardiff since his deadline day transfer from Reading. Victor Camarasa and Josh Murphy could also be in contention after missing the game against Arsenal. Harry Arter however is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Bournemouth will not have star striker Callum Wilson available as he is out due to minor knee surgery. However he could be replaced up front by new signing Dominic Solanke, who was available but unused in the game against Chelsea.

In the reverse fixture, Bournemouth won 2-0 and dominated possession for vast periods. Given the recent form of both teams and the emotional rollercoaster for all concerned with Cardiff, this is a game which is likely to prove very difficult for The Bluebirds. Bournemouth have the superior players and are on a high after their win over Chelsea. The fact that Cardiff cannot score and continue to leak goals is a bad combination and this is why they are unlikely to get anything from this game.
