Chelsea v Watford

Premier League: Sun, 05/05  Stadium: Stamford  Bridge

vs.

In the betting markets, Chelsea start this game as heavy favourites. However we feel this will be a tough tie for the Blues and backing draw or Watford at 11/5 could be good value with Bet365. This could be a selection you take for a period of time with a view to cashing out. This game has previously been a combative fixture and backing over 2.5 cards at 4/7 could also be one which is almost a given for any punter.

Chelsea welcome Watford to Stamford Bridge with both teams keen to finish the league season strongly and not be distracted by their upcoming cup games. Chelsea currently occupy the fourth Champions League spot and will want to ensure they secure this to guarantee qualification, with Watford looking forward to their FA Cup Final and a potential spot in Europe.

Chelsea come into this game in not the best form in the league, having not won any of their previous three. After losing 2-0 to Liverpool, the Blues then drew 2-2 with Burnley at home and secured a 1-1 draw against Manchester United after a David De Gea error. Maurizio Sarri will know that Champions League qualification is crucial for the club to attract the best players next season and will need his team to maximise their final home game of the season. The team haven’t won more than three game in a row since the start of the season and they remain in top four contention as the likes of Spurs have had major injuries rather than being consistent themselves.

Watford’s form has also been patchy with the team winning just one of their last four league games, including a solitary point in their last three home games. They were lucky to secure a draw at home against Southampton as Andre Gray scored a late equaliser, but Wolves were not as forgiving and won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota. It will be interesting to see if he throws his big guns into the remaining Premier League fixtures to improve match sharpness and get back to winning ways, or protect them for the final. He will however know that their form is a major concern and that the team has slipped to 10th position in the league when they were battling for the ‘best of the rest’ tag in 7th place.

In team news, Chelsea are expected to draft Eden Hazard straight back into the starting lineup having sat out the first leg Europa League tie against Frankfurt. Ruben Loftus-Cheek should also be available but whether he starts remains to be seen. Gary Cahill is continuing to struggle with an Achilles tendon problem and Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, so the defence is a real concern for Sarri.

Watford will welcome back club captain and top scorer Troy Deeney who returns having finished his suspension. Craig Cathcart is a doubt, while Etienne Capoue, Miguel Britos, Sebastian Prodl and Domingos Quina are all out.

In previous head to heads Chelsea have enjoyed the greater success but not without being given a good game and various scares by the Hornets. This has however only resulted in one victory in their last 14 meetings in all competitions, with that result coming in a 4-1 victory just last season. The reverse fixture saw Chelsea win 2-1 courtesy of a Eden Hazard brace and fans will be hoping their talisman can produce the same result on Sunday.
