Champions League chasing Tottenham Hotspur take on already relegated Huddersfield Town, in what on paper looks to be an obvious home win.

New stadium revives the hosts

Despite moving in several months late into their new stadium, Spurs have wasted little time making themselves at home, chalking up back to back wins against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. With four of their remaining six league games to come at their new stadium including this fixture, and just a one point cushion in the race for a top four spot as things currently stand, Spurs will hope to keep up the momentum in their new home.

Little hope for a Huddersfield result?

The away side arrive with the second worse away record in the Premier League, winning just six points on their travels from sixteen games, hardly suggesting they will be gatecrashing Spurs’ push for the top four. Against top six sides they have lost nine games from nine this season, conceding 26 goals in the process. A wretched season is summed by the fact they have lost eighteen of their last twenty games, hardly surprising then they are heading back to the Championship with one of the worse records seen in the Premier League in recent seasons.

Team News

The big news is the injury suffered by Harry Kane against City in midweek which looks set to rule him out for the rest of the season. An unfortunate tangle with England teammate Fabian Delph left Spurs striker clutching his left ankle, sustain significant ligament damage in the process.

Almost gone unnoticed was the injury picked up Dele Alli, who suffered a fractured left hand in the same fixture against City. The England midfielder may play on through the pain, but definitely ruled out are Serge Aurier, Erik Lamela, and Eric Dier, with the trio struggling to return to fitness again before the end of the season.

Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert may continue with his recent rotation policy, giving chances to all of his squad as he assesses his options ahead of a return to the Championship. Definitely ruled out are Demeaco Duhaney and Laurent Depoitre who are both nearing full fitness, whilst Isaac Mbenza is a doubt due to illness.

Comfortable afternoon for hosts

Despite the big loss of Harry Kane, the hosts should have far too much quality for the bottom placed side and should enjoy a comfortable afternoon. Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to get through the fixture with no further casualties with the return leg against Manchester City to follow this game, and putting the game to bed early will be the order of the day for the home team. For Huddersfield it will be another case of damage limitation as they seek to keep things respectable, with the away side severely lacking the quality to trouble any of the top sides.
