Watford v Leicester City

Premier League: Sun, 3/03  Stadium: Vicarage Road

vs.

This is a difficult game to call given Watford’s excellent season thus far. However we feel that Leicester will feel they are at a turning point, and with the departure of Puel the team looked more confident in expressing themselves in their last game. We feel the Foxes are good value at 2/1 with Bet365 for all three points. You could however hedge this by backing the draw or Leicester win market at 11/20. A player punt on Jamie Vardy to score at anytime is being offered at 8/5 which seems good value considering he has scored against this opponent in their last two meetings.

Watford play Leicester City in an intriguing fixture given recent events at both clubs. Watford have been impressive this season but took a 5-0 battering at leaders Liverpool, whilst Leicester won their first game in seven after the sacking of Claude Puel and appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

Javi Gracia will be hoping his team can put their last performance behind them as the team have been excellent this season, sitting equal on points with Wolves with a view to securing their ‘best of the rest’ status outside the top six. However the performance against Liverpool would have knocked the confidence of his players as the Reds ran riot and put five past a defence which has impressed this year. Watford had however enjoyed a run of three wins on the trot in all competitions, including a victory over QPR which took them through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Leicester fans are looking forward to the dawn of a new era after the appointment of Brendan Rodgers. For a long time the mood around the King Power had been subdued as players and fans seemed to turn against manager Claude Puel. This culminated in a seven game winless run in which the team lost six. The run was broken on Tuesday when the team won immediately after the sacking of Puel. Goals from Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy saw them beat Brighton and now the question will be whether the team can kick on, especially as Rodger’s style suits attacking flair players of which Leicester have plenty.

In team news, reports are suggesting that Rodgers is likely to keep faith with much of the same team that beat Brighton. This will see Jamie Vardy again lead the line with James Maddison in the role of playmaker. It is a combination that has worked well together and with Demarai Gray providing the width, Rodgers will be hoping to get at the Watford backline with the same penetration that was managed by Liverpool.

Watford will welcome back defender Jose Holebas after suspension with Miguel Britos also recovering from illness. Kiko Femenia was also due to feature but the full-back was sick on Friday.

In recent meetings Leicester have enjoyed more success. The Foxes have won three out of the previous four meetings including the reverse fixture which saw them win 2-0 with goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison. The team playing at home has tended to be the victor and this will give Watford hope.
