West Ham welcome Newcastle to the London Stadium in the late kick-off on Saturday. The Hammers come into this game having won just one of their last seven games in all competitions with Newcastle in good form having lost once in their last five. Both teams will be looking to push for a top 10 finish as Newcastle are now just five points behind the Hammers who currently occupy 10th spot.

Manuel Pellegrini will be pleased that after a poor start to the season his team were able to battle and graft out the points required to ease any fears of relegation. But the Hammers have fallen back in to their early season patterns with just a solitary win against Fulham since mid-January. Hammers fans will point to the fact that they did manage to draw with league leaders Liverpool in that time and were unfortunate not to come away with a point against Champions Manchester City last time out. If it wasn’t for a contentious penalty won by Bernardo Silva, West Ham could have earned an unlikely point at Pellegrini’s former club.

Newcastle have been excellent in recent weeks as fans continue their love affair with Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard has managed to steer the club away from the bottom three despite being restricted in his ability to invest in the squad. A plethora of draws and losses finally came to an end when Newcastle beat fellow strugglers Cardiff 3-0. This was soon followed by one of the results of the season, as the Magpies battled from a goal down to beat champions Manchester City 2-1. In their last three games, they have managed to win two on the bounce and draw against high-flying Wolves, with the team now pushing to get into the top ten rather than looking over their shoulders at relegation.

In team news, West Ham should be able to welcome back Marko Arnautovic after the Austrian recovered from a fever with Fabian Balbuena also a possible returnee. Doubts remain over full-back Aaron Cresswell as he recovers from a broken toe and reports are suggesting that Jack Wilshere could be out for the rest of the season with a persistent ankle injury.

Rafa Benitez has less concerns as Rob Elliott and Ciaran Clark remain the only notable absentees. Fans will be eager to see Miguel Almiron play after the striker has made an impressive start to the season. He is likely to partner Salomon Rondon up front, with the Venezuelan rising as a key figure in Newcastle’s rise up the table.

The fixture at the start of the season was comprehensively won 3-0 by West Ham, with Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson getting the goals. However Newcastle did win both fixtures last season and given their recent form, this will not be an easy game for the Hammers.

This is likely to be a cagey affair at the start, as both teams are known to set up well and remain well drilled when defending. The formbook suggests Newcastle have the edge coming in to this game and odds of 8/11 being offered by Bet365 for either a Newcastle win or draw look attractive. Backing under 11 corners at 5/6 could materialise given how both teams play with the player market offering generous odds of 9/4 for a Salomon Rondon goal at any time.
